Niseko’s Latest: Visiting Hirafu’s Newest Public Onsen
Yukoro Onsen is the latest addition to Niseko that sits in the heart of Hirafu. Now newly renovated and reborn as a luxurious public hot-spring facility, the onsen is a perfect pit-stop after a long day on the slopes.
We recommend visiting early, or during off-peak timings to fully enjoy the experience.
A New Landmark
Re-opened on 8 September 2025, the newly rebuilt Yukoro Onsen sits directly on its original source site — reviving a long-cherished local onsen with a full redesign by acclaimed architect Makoto Nakayama of Makoto Nakayama Architects.
Using natural stone mined from the area and warm wood tones, the architecture invokes a calm, timeless ambience, with an emphasis on sustainability and connection to the land.
The Onsen Experience
Spring quality: The water is a sodium-bicarbonate + chloride type spring, enriched by micro-algae and minerals thanks to Niseko’s volcanic geology beneath Mount Yōtei. It’s said to soothe muscles, support circulation and revitalise the skin.
Indoor & outdoor baths: There are separate bathing zones for men and women. Inside you’ll find a minimalist indoor bath and sauna, while the outdoor open-air bath offers views of Mount Yōtei, letting visitors soak in hot water while overlooking Niseko’s seasonal landscape.
Facilities & flow: Changing rooms, spacious showers and low-density layouts ensure a relaxed experience. Tickets are bought via self-service vending machines and cashless payment is supported.
